You’ve got to drive Cottonwood Pass because the drive up and down from either side is scenic and feels safe. The view from the summit of the pass definitely ranks in the top 3 in terms of the wow factor. If you’re headed to Crested Butte from Denver this is an excellent alternative to driving there via Monarch Pass.

Just another gorgeous scenic byway with iconic views. Access road west of Buena Vista, paved and not too curvy, pass is at 12,126 ft. Small parking (always full). Nice opportunity for short hike with great views including view of small pond below. There are plenty of hiking options along the way and plenty of vista points to get out of the car and take in the prime scenery too. Leave no Trace. Keep Colorado Beautiful 🙏.

I love this pass! It has one of my favorite views in Colorado! I visited last year after hiking to Lost Lake and returned this year to hike around!

Cottonwood Pass, Where the peaks touch sky, Whispers of the highland In a breeze so shy. Amidst rugged heights, A stillness profound.

This has to be one of the most epic and beautiful places in North America. This is worth the drive. Be sure to take the short walk (.28 of a mile) from the parking area up to the lookout. You will be hating life if you are not used to the altitude. I struggled to breathe going up. Slow and steady win the race. Once I got to the top I took a rock seat and just took it all in. Every direction you look is photo worthy yet your photos will do no justice to what your eyes are taking in. It took me just over 30 mins to go up and back. I spent 10 mins or so up top. Just do it!
