Fun trail with great views! The shelf road is definitely narrow but passable in a full size vehicle, helps if you have a spotter. The trail gets a little tight in some places, especially on the south side, so be prepared for some potential pinstripes in a full size vehicle

This is one of the craziest trails we have done. Felt like Schnebly (in Sedona), but way longer and rockier with some narrow and steep spots, but the pay off are the views. I unfortunately did not record the tough spots. I was too busy white knuckling. Driving this trail was fun one time, and one time only for us. We just crossed Hancock Pass and needed to go west, so Tomichi was our only choice. If you really love adventure, not scared of heights, and you have a capable vehicle, this is a trail for you.

The Pass is fixed (there was a rockslide a few years ago) and passable. However, it's a tight squeeze and you really don't want to meet someone coming from the other directions. So if you're going to do the pass do it in the morning and on a weekday. This past Summer we did it with 4-wheelers and Polaris Rangers (they were lifted with larger than factory tires). I would consider it a rocky trail for experienced drivers who are not fearful of cliffs.

Did this pass ~2016. Spectacular views. But.... BEWARE!! I used a 4WD Pathfinder. The last stretch of SINGLE LANE DIRT ROAD from St Elmo up the pass is NARROW!! Almost slid off at one point. Whew!! Also very rocky, slow ride. I punctured my oil pan, but my BEAST made it out. If you are not High Clearance, Narrow, Skid Plate 4WD, be prepared!!!! Needless to say, beautiful landscape & views. Harrowing at times. A day that will be a story to tell the ancestors!! 😃

Currently the pass is closed and may be for a while, because a rock and snow slide completly defaced the side of the pass with hancock pass and there is very little of the road left
