Old Monarch Pass

This is the original Pass on Rd. 237 starting at the base of Monarch Mountain Ski Area, only a couple miles to the top. There are a few pull offs to camp and a nice lot at the pass to park. You can pick the Divide Trail up here to the top of the Ski area, with great views of Mt. Shavano and Tabeguache toward Salida and numerous peaks to the north, plus Tomichi Creek valley to the west.

Nice smooth road to take a different way to Gunnison. Might take a bit longer but scenery is better and no maniacs

Nice sledding hill just outside the Monarch Ski area. A short walk off the main road. For when tired of skiing.
